Clinical Experience Options

Traditional

The Traditional Pre-II option provides opportunities for teacher candidates to analyze and synthesize teaching principles in classroom settings. During this field experience, candidates formally apply teaching methodologies in the school setting as they develop, implement, and teach a minimum of three separate lessons. Candidates are evaluated using NSU’s conceptual framework outcomes and Oklahoma’s Teacher and Leader Effectiveness (TLE) Observation and Evaluation System standards. Candidates also continue to journal their observations of clinical faculty and analysis of student development and learning.

In the Pre-Internship II, candidates complete 10 full days, once per week in a PK-12 classroom. In addition, they attend four on-campus seminars covering placement, specific course assignments, and current educational issues.

NEXT

NEXT (Northeastern's Enhanced eXperience in Teaching), provides opportunities for teacher candidates to analyze and synthesize teaching principles in classroom settings. During this field experience, candidates formally apply teaching methodologies in the school setting for 14-16 weeks two days per week. Candidates are evaluated using NSU’s conceptual framework outcomes and Oklahoma’s Teacher and Leader Effectiveness (TLE) Observation and Evaluation System standards. Candidates also continue to journal their observations of the cooperating teacher and analysis of student development and learning.

NEXT candidates complete approximately 28-32 full days, two days per week in a PK-12 classroom. Candidates participating in the NEXT program remain placed at the NEXT placement school throughout the duration of the Full internship resulting in a year-long placement. In addition, candidates complete course requirements for EDUC 4032.
